A White Dream

I have a dream, a white dream. A dream where the men of Qatar not just wear white, but walk upon white, drive upon white and ski upon white."

A. F. Ool, Sudanese Solar-Nuclear Scientist and Champion Skier

The Technology Behind the Dream

A Carbon Positive Project

Launching 1st April 2008, Qatar Snow City will utilise solar power, aided by the latest nuclear reactors from Tehran, to harness the power of the sun to power a giant refrigerator beneath the surface of the sand dunes. Excess fresh water generated by another Qatar project, the seawater greenhouse, will be pumped up the sand dunes using the very latest reverse gravitational technology and sprayed out from the dunes. As the sprays fall the the surface of the dune the chill generated by the giant refrigerator will hit the spray, turning it into snow. Paradoxically, the very nature of the project means that the technology will work best in the searing hot heat of the Qatar summer. The project is carbon positive, and run off from the snow will help to green the desert at the foot of the snow dunes.

The Man Behind the Dream

Growing up as a young skier in a nomadic tribe in the deepest desert of Sudan, it was always hard to find places to practice my ski jumping. Now, Thanks be to God, we have the technology to power our dreams.

- A. F. Ool

Dr. A. F. Ool was born a Bedouin Nomad in the depths of the Sudanese desert. In his rare trips to the French Alps he developed a passion for ski-ing - a passion that was sadly subverted by Al Qaeda. The terrorist organisation recognised his genius, and taught him the basics of nuclear technology. It was only when he learned that the Al Qaeda was planning to use his brilliance to bomb a major ski tournament that he realised the error of his ways. In the middle of the night he escaped from the terrorist camp where he had been working, travelling on a small hovercraft he had built, itself powered by the very nuclear bomb he had been working on, and escaped over enemy lines into the waiting arms of the Americans. The Americans completed his nuclear studies, and gave him a grant to continue his research in Iran. It was from Iran that Dr. A F. Ool was recruited by the Qatar Supreme Council for the Development of the Desert (QSCDD).
